Masks are no longer required to be worn outside, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Indoor and outdoor venues can fill up to 50% of their capacity, according to him. If there are no procedures for confirmation of immunizations, only 1 000 and 2 000 persons will be allowed to enter the building indoors and outdoors, respectively. This will allow for sports gatherings, conferences, and music performances;
The number of people allowed at a funeral will be increased to 200;
A distance of one meter must still be maintained between people, except in schools (physical distancing);
Travellers entering SA must show proof of vaccination or a PCR test;
Those entering who want a vaccination can get one starting on Wednesday.
Several times during his brief speech, Ramaphosa urged South Africans to be vaccinated.
He claims that more than 68 percent of individuals over the age of 60 have been vaccinated, but only 35 percent of those between 18 to 35 have been. Getting immunized, according to him, is crucial.
“While the pandemic has destroyed many livelihoods and harmed our economy, it has also demonstrated that South Africans are caring people.”
Meanwhile, he stated that Ramaphosa has stated that the government will lift the state of disaster once public opinions have been received in order to develop draft legislation that will allow the government to deal with similar crises.
However, he points out that the end of the state of calamity does not imply that the pandemic is finished; rather, it indicates that the government’s reaction is shifting.
