Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

1.A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over the eastern parts of the Free State, western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga as well as the central parts of Limpopo are expected leading to with large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours resulting in localized flooding of low lying roads, bridges, and informal settlements.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy from the afternoon with isolated evening thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with scattered afternoon and evening showers and thundershowers but isolated in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers from the afternoon but scattered over the central and southern parts.

North-West Province:

Temperature:Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers except in the west.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy along the coast at first where it will be cool, otherwise fine and warm to hot but partly cloudy in the extreme east.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy to cloudy over the central and eastern parts early in the morning, otherwise fine and warm, but hot in places in the north-east and cool along the south coast with high-level clouds over the extreme south-western parts from the afternoon. It will become partly cloudy over the extreme western parts from the evening.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh east to north-east along the south coast, otherwise south to south-east, becoming south-west in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half –Cloudy at first, otherwise fine and cool to warm.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable at first, becoming moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.

The Eastern half – Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

The Eastern half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming south-easterly from the south in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.
